questions about taurus revolvers

I am new at this whole looking for guns on my own; I've always had them passed down from my Dad. Well, I've decided I want a used Taurus .357 with a 6'' ported barrel or something simular for target shooting. Can anyone give me any suggestions on the best place to look for one and about how much I should pay? Also, being a girl and having small hands I have a hard time finding a grip that will fit my hand; any suggestions for that? Thanks. [:X]

    Dang, I saw a stainless one sell here on GB about two days ago for about $190. Take a look the the auctions here, do a search for "taurus" and see what comes up. Depending on condition and other specifics you'll probably be looking in the $175-300 range

    MissShooter, Welcome to the forum. I would definitely reccomend a Taurus. They are well made guns. You should expect to pay anywhere from $200 to $350 for a used Taurus .357 w/6" barrel depending on condition. You may want to check out the Hogue line of grips. They have some really nice finger grooved grips that may fit. Like joey said, you may be able to find a good deal right here on gunbroker. Good luck.[:D]

    A lady friend of mine bought a Taurus revolver for self defense (without asking me for advice). When she took it to the range, she found she didn't have the strength to fire it DA. Unwilling to pay more for mods from a gunsmith, she depends upon it with the intent to fire it SA only. Moral: "Try it before you buy it."

    Personally, my favorite target gun is an old S&W K-38 (Model 14).

    I used to have a taurus tracker .357, and the "ribber" grips that came on it are very comfortable. My ex gf and my mom had no trouble handling it. nice guns for the money

    I have several Taurus revolvers,I have 3 of the model 605 .357 magnums,very nice little guns.liked them so well I even bought my son a model 94 .22.I have a 7yr old niece that loves to shoot them loaded with .38's.I would not pay over $300 for a used one in great shape,I have found new one's in that same price range

    I agree with the above . The first place I would look is my local gunshop. Especially if you are are going to buy used you want to be able to see the gun , handle it and be able to have a place either to return it if you have a problem . Keep in mind if you buy here that you will have a $20 S&H charge plus a $10-$40 charge once again once it gets to your local dealers shop to cover your paper work . If you can get a good price BUY LOCAL ..

    Last weekend, I took a gal shooting that wanted a .357 revolver for home defense. We went through the calibers one-at-a-time, from 22WMRF, to 17HMR, to 32H&RMag, to 38 special, 38 super, 357Sig, then we started shooting different barrel lengths in .357Mag.
    The gun she was able to hit EVERYTHING with was a Taurus 941 in 22Mag.

    I told her to get one of those, and a 12ga. for home defense.
