Help Identifying 38 Cal Revolver

Hello:

I purchased a Garand through this site recently and am now hoping you can help me identify the make/model/approx age of an old 38 Cal revolver I found this past weekend while packing up my Grandfather's things.

I don't see a manufacturer's name but there is some slightly illegible patent info on the end/bottom of the handle. Also, the black plastic/bakolite grips have an owl face on them and what appears to be the letters "I" and "J" on the decorative scrollwork around the grip's mounting screw.

I tried to attach some pictures to this post but could not figure it out. So instrad I posted two pictures to my SBC/Yahoo folder. YOu can see them by going to this link and clicking on the "Gun Broker Pictures" folder>

    The link didn't show up correctly - This posting board is a little different than I'm used to.

    When you click on the altered/messed-up URL you will see a message about "No shared folders are available". Simple click on the "Go to Briefcase Home" and then click on the "Gun Broker" folder

    Sounds like an Iver Johnson to Me...No great collector Value...In Good Condition maybe $75.00...The more wear....the less value.....

    A picture would help greatly, I have sbc also, they really suck on picture hosting, you have to "invite" everyone who you allow one at a time to see your photos, try photo bucket

    A picture could turn kirks 75.00 into a few hundred

    If it has an owl, its an Iver Johnson, no collector value, but sentimental value if you were close to your grandfather.

    I believe this is the picture off his website.

    It's probably an Iver Johnson. It's pretty much a valueless saturday night special.

    Thanks for the information. Sentimental value would keep it in myhands evven if it had been worh something.

    As an aside - any idea why this posting board doesn't seem to allow pictures to be posted? Or am I just doing domething wrong? I'm not completely inept about this stuff - but couldn't figure out how to post the picture.

    Follow these instructions, they have worked satisfactorily in the past, for others.



    First thing you need is a site to host your picture. What I mean by that is that you will need to upload your pictures to a web site that will host(display) them for you. You should not use your hard drive to host pictures for safety sake. Use www.photobucket.com to host your pictures.

    After you have uploaded your pictures to the site that will host them for you(per their directions), the next thing you will want to do is go to the picture hosting site and view the picture. While you are viewing the picture, right click on it and you'll see another window that should pop up, now click on "properties" and copy the picture URL. If you know how to "copy & paste" this will be a piece of cake.

    Now that you have the picture URL and your ready to post your picture. Do the following, use the following code except take out the "*" asterisk. The "*" asterisk is used here only so you can see the code. In other words if I posted the code without the "*" asterisk you will see a picture instead of the code. Anyways use this code to post your picture..

    i can't get the picture to come up. if you will e-mail me a picture i can tell you if if is an iver johnson and what the model name is. if you include the serial number found on the left side of the grip frame (including the letter code if present)under the grip panel i can give you a year of manufacture.
