Which recoil pad Sims or Decelerator?
Which recoil pad do you feel reduces felt recoil the best a decelerator or a SIMS Limbsaver? The gun is a 300 Ultra mag and the recoil pad is the earlier hard rem one rather than the R3.

There are several versions of the Decelerator, so it's hard to say. I think there are versions of the Decelerator that are better than the Limbsaver.
My favorite so far is the Pachmayr Trap Recoil Pad. Made for shotguns, but I like it for my Remington 700 .30-06.

The Sims Vibration Laboratory Limb Saver pads are considered to be the top addition to rifles chambered with the heavier recoiling cartridges that we are seeing more of today. Pachmayr and Kick-eez haven't introduced anything that can be considered new or better for a long time. Sims caught them all by surprise with their introductions and their pads ability to defeat recoil energy.
But you will find advocates for each of the name brands. I happen to dislike the look of those shotgun pads with baffles when used on a fine rifle. The baffles look old and passe. Classic rifles, even in fiberglass stocks, should look smooth and be nicely shaped, not bogged down with baffles in a recoil pad. Those baffles look even worse with a 'tactical' style rifle. Function is always first but give some consideration to how something will look on your rifle as well as how it will work.

nononsense, does the Sims pads finish(grind) as smooth as the Decelerator pad. I've not given them a try as yet. I tried the other "wonder" pads when they came out and was very disappointed by the fact that they would tear and not finish very smoothly. 0 -

The SVL pads require some different techniques for finishing in order to avoid the wrinkling or tearing of the material. What I saw at first was that the pad was actually melting because I was trying to use a high speed belt sander and hurrying at the same time. Now I get the pad cold and work it for a bit, chill it again and work it some more. Repeat until finished. It goes pretty fast once you get the timing down.
I can't remember the exact year but probably 3 or 4 years ago at SHOTShow, I spent a bit of time talking to the folks at the Sims booth. They had been in their shop for several months prior to the show experimenting with different grinding techniques on the rifle pads since this was a totally new venture for them. You might want to call them and get the instructions from the horses mouth.

Thanks, I think I'll do that. I have been known to get in a hurry myself. That might explain the problems I have had with the Terminator and Kick Ease pads. 0 -
I have a 300 ultramag Browning A-bolt and installed the Sims- It works great and was easy to install ( synthetic stock) 0 -
You will be real suprised at how nice a job can be done on the Sims pads if you freeze then before you start to grind them really slow, and apply a little WD-40 as your doing the grinding. Heat on thse pads can be a bad thing as far as looks go, but won't hurt the recoil reducing ability at all.......
The new SVL pads are the best ever IMHO

nononsense, great point as usual, the decelerator will look better on this rifle.
