rem. sportsman 48, C&R?

hey guys, can anyone tell me if a remington, sportsman 48 is a c&r gun or not. thanks.

  Unless you can establish it was made before 7/55, your SOL. The Remington's have a date in "Code" on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the receiver. Let us know what the letters are, maybe we can help you?
