SIGMA Handguns
I understand there were problems with the older Smith & Wesson Sigma handguns. I just bought one of the new Sigma 9mm with two 15 round magazines and no active safety. Although I have only owned this gun for a very short period of time it seems to be a great weapon. It is similar to a Glock and I would prefer the grip on this to a Glock any day. It seems that the problems with the earlier models have been fixed. Has anyone had any problems with the newer models??? If not this seems to be a great gun for the money.

First, from one starting member to another, welcome to the forum. The folks on this site are very helpful, very opinionated, very informative, and usually, very right.
As to your questions regarding the Sigma, you will find a very clear and, often, bitter divide here on the forum. Some will tell you that the Sigma is junk, not worth the rope to include it as a boat anchor.
Others would have you believe that the Sigma is a Glock rip-off (which it actually is, for which S&W was sued, and eventually settled). Changes in the model followed Glock's lawsuit and resulted in the current model that I think that you and I both own.
I would include myself in the final group: the one that sees that I didn't buy the first generation Sigma that did have its problems, and I didn't buy a Glock. I bought the latest generation Sigma. That's what it is. My 9VE has never failed to fire. This is my experience.
The only downside that I currently see is S&W's treatment of the pistol, kind of the red-headed stepchild variety. I don't see many aftermarket extras for it, and those available are awfully expensive ($39.95 MSRP for one magazine). The accesory rail is not the standard variety available on other pistols, including those found on other S&W pistols. In both circumstances, it appears S&W dropped the ball.
Now, to answer your second entry on the forum, I currently use Winchester 147gr. JHP's. My reduced capacity mags (10rd) currently house the "Personal Defense" series rounds, but my standard capacity (16rd.) ones are stoked with the "Ranger" series.

i owned a sigma 9ve, it was actualy the first hangun i baught, i always thaught that it was a great little handgun and it fit my hand like nothing else on earth.
i am def of the group that beleives these guns do not deserve the bad rep or "red head step child" attitude that has ben assigned to them
alas i eventualy sold it as i was uncomfortable with the lack of an active safety, but that is the only reason i sold. the Police Officer that i sold it to ( a member of the forum) told me in an email that he was quite pleased with the firearm

i personaly do not beleive that you need to carry an anti tank rifle for personal protection.
it doesn't matter how big your gun is, it's what you do with it when it counts

I have two (2) of these in my "safe" , a 9mm & a .40 cal., have Not fired either on as of yet , (no reason!!!), but because I 'carry' a Glock 40 cal. for 'duty' & a Keltec (here it comes) 'off duty' , I just never taken the time to fire them (YET)...I bought them just because they are what they are (polymer guns) as well as being S&W's,
I do have a 'few' (S&W's) as well as other "things" put up in my safes , just "because"!!!!!

Love my Smith auto's, hated my Sigma. I had a .40 model and, while it was reasonably reliable, it was wildly inaccurate and I found the gun rather uncomfortable. On the same note, I have a strong dislike for Glocks as well (and Polymer guns in General). I had a S&W 5906, and currently have a 1006, 4006 and 4506 and love the steel-framed S&W's. If your Sigma works for you, great. I personally will never buy another. A $300 gun from a company that sells all their other standard auto's for $700-$900 says quite a bit about the time spent with R&D as well as the materials used and production methods. The math isn't difficult.
Save the seals-club a liberal instead.0
