Green Goo in my Mauser?

I have a M48 Mauser. The last tiem I shot it was about 6 weeks ago. After I shot it, I cleaned it with hot, soapy water and then Hoppes.
When I went shooting again yesterday I noticed an oily green "goo" seeping out from around the magazine well. When I chambered and extracted a round there was also this goo on the cartridge. Does anyone have any idea of what it might be from? It smells and feels just like oil, but I don't oil it. Also the green color threw me off. Any ideas?

    THE HOPPES WILL TURN THE COPPER FOULING GREEN THIS WILL MIX WITH ANY OIL OR LEFTOVER HOPPES, NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT UNLESS IT IS STARTING TO RUST.

    Well, I seem to remember some 'green goo' on my 'gun' after I was kidnapped by the aliens ??? but seriously , yes that was right , just clean it up....

    thats the stuff that made g.i's run an extra 3 miles if the D.I. found it on their gun during inspection!
