Drop port rifle actions

In reading about bench rest shooting I see some top shooters are using drop port or dual port actions (1K matches).

What are drop port actions? Why use one? What is the advantage of a dual port action.

    Viper Drop-port

    The new drop port action is the best type of ejection action to ever hit the benches. A small hole in bottom of the action allows the spent cartridge to drop out the bottom of the action. A small part is available to glue into the stock to control the drop if desired. Only one 1/2 inch hole in the stock is required just ahead of the trigger guard. Gravity does all of the work, NO ejector is required. Unlike other ejector designs or microports, it ALWAYS works. Out of hundreds of rounds shot through the prototypes, not one has even hinted at a failure. We want to thank Jerry Hensler for the concept on this one. It is so trick we are even patenting it. If you want an ejection style action, this is the one for you.

    Dual Port Receivers:

    This is as the name describes, two ports with one each left and right, giving the shooter the option of loading from either side and ejection from the opposite. The only techical part of this is to remember to change over the ejector to the opposite side of the loading port.

    the multi-port actions came about as a result of benchrest suggestions from what I know. Many shooters prefer to fire all of their 5-10 record rounds under the same "condition", so when the flags or mirage shows the condition the shooter wants to shoot under,..they hurry and rip all their rounds off one after another as soon as the crosshairs fall in on the return of the rifle in the front rest/bag. The multi-port allows the shooter to keep their cheek weld and firing hand in place, and load the next round with the offside hand that adjusts the rest screws and focus knob. That allows the shooter to maintain the position and hold without "coming up" off the rifle to see the next round and insert it with the firing hand, and then having to re-weld to the rifle.

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
