Sending Taurus back to mfg???

Found a good deal on a used Taurus 44 mag (blue, 4" bbl, ported) at a gun show. It wasn't until I got it home and could take the 2 zip ties off that I noticed how loose the cylinder was. It's not "dangerous" loose, but I do think it is affecting the performance of the gun.

How bad does it have to be to send it back under the "lifetime guarantee". And how much trouble is it, how long should I expect thewm to take to get it fixed, etc....

Any suggestions or tips you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.

    The looseness of the cylinder "at rest" is not important.

    The correct way to test for play is (with the gun unloaded) to cock the gun, pull the hammer back slightly & hold onto it, then pull the trigger & continue to hold it back, then ease the hammer all the way forward. At this point the trigger should still be held back. If the cylinder is loose at this point, then you may have a problem. This test should be repeated with all chambers in the cylinder.

    There should only be slight wiggle of the cylinder when tested as above. The more wiggle, the more likely you need professional repair.

    Thanks Neal, that is how I tested it - - trigger back after easing hammer down on an EMPTY chamber/gun. Problem is the terms we are using are subjective - - your "slight wiggle" might be "loose" to me. I ran a gun shop (buying and selling new and used guns) for a little over a decade, but that was almost 15 years ago. For the last 15 years I've been all about .45 ACP autos and haven't done much with revolvers.

    I guess I'll get an expert diagnosis - anyone know of a good gunsmith in Jacksonville, FL?

    I would send it to Taurus in Miami. They are good about warrentee. I have a PT-99 9mm that I had the rear sight break in half. I sent it to them and got it back in a week with a new sight installed.
