Winchester 405 Ammo

I have a box of original Winchester 405 ammo-what would it be worth-box in good shape, but one of the end flaps is missing.

    Depends on what era box and the missing flap is a definite minus. Impossible to give even a WAG without seeing a photo of the box, front and back because there were so many variations of boxes way back when. Sometimes two boxes will look the same at a casual glance, but, a subtle difference in labeling may double or more the value.

    With the flap missing it looses just about all it collectible value unless it is something extremely unusual. 405 is now being offered by Hornady as the Winchester 95 and Ruger #1 are offered in the 405. I would still ask $40.00 for the box and if sold seperately at a gun show $3.00 per round.

    gary, there is a lot of data missing here . . . . Need photos, more data.

    (1) *Which* box is it . . . Winchester produced this round for over fifty years in a variety of packaging schemes. A missing flap from a box produced in the early 1920s is going be far less of an issue than with one produced in the 1950s.

    (2) "Good shape" is far too vague; I've seen plenty of "good" boxes (as defined by gun guys) which were "good" only to hold the ammo in the eyes of the average ammo collector.

    (3) Condition of the ammo, headstamp, loading, possibly other details.

    As shooting ammo, it is not desirable now that new production is available. As a box, it may / may not be worth a premium, as single rounds, over time, it could bring in some money.
