6mm reload question

My Remington VLS barrel has a 1 in 9 twist.Would this rate preclude the use of 55 grain bullets? What might I expect? Would I notice much of a reduction in recoil from the 70 grain bullets I presently have been shooting?

    As every rifle has its on peculiarities in what it likes or shoots best ,no definite answer can be given to your question.
    I dont think the twist rate would keep it from working ,1in 9 is not overly fast. I have been very impressed with the accuracy of the 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip in the 243 Winchester chambering in my own and in several other peoples rifles.
    There is no reason it wont work in your 6mm unless your particular barrel just doesnt "like" them.
    my 243 shoots them into cloverleaf sub half inch groups with 3 different powders.
    The only way to find out is to load up some and shoot' em at the target.try IMR 4064 or Varget.

    Quite aware of finicky barrels!!Still curious about recoil reduction? Would there be a noticable amount of reduction from the 70 grain Noslers?

    If you were using very good measuring equipment you could tell the difference of a 15 grain increase in bullet weight, but I doubt that your shoulder could tell the difference.......

    Gun control is hitting what your aiming at.

    Thanks....didn't think it would be noticable. My 22-250 has me a bit spoiled.The 6mm blows my visual off the long range "Dogs" now and then.If and when I miss,it's nice to know what correction is necessary.

    The recoil in a 6mm/243 with the 55 gr bullet is for all practical application the same as a 22/250 with a 55 gr bullet, the velocity in a 243 is about the same, in a 6mm maybe a little higher. a 55gr missile at the same velocity will produce abou the same backthrust ,by all laws of physics. the 22/250 has very little recoil if you have shot it ,then you have experienced the same thing as the 243/6mm with a 55 gr bullet.
    your 700 VLS is a fairly heavy rifle and an extremely accurate one.the weight of it will absorb most of the movement in firing.

    Sounds like I'll give it a try! VVN-550 has been the ticket for my 70 Noslers(46.0 grains). I'll have a little project for the summer determining the right load. I would like to keep the velocity reasonable as to not burn out the barrel.We sling quite a few at those "Dogs"! THANKS
