Para's LDA magazine question
Okay, after all my pondering over which .45ACP auto-loader to finally get, I had decided on a Para LDA Hi-Cap in Covert Black with the 10 round limited magazines (since I live in Kalifornia) but then I went to the Cal DOJ Firearms Division website to check their Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale in California and the Para LDA model DC1445E the LDA Hi-Cap with 10 round magazines is not on the list. What a bunch of crap! Now what? But wait, there is a real question I'm wondering about, are the 10 round limited Paras only limited in the sense that they come with 10 round mags but would accept the 14 round mags or are they somehow modified to accept only the 10 round mags. Para's website specs don't say that I can find.

The 10 round para magazine is merely a modified 14 round magazine to limit the magazines capacity, not it's function in any way with the pistol. They are interchangeable. The pistol frames are identical in every way.

The para single action, and LDA Mags are the same. the 10 rounders have a plastic base pad that takes up about 1" of the tube length to leave you with a 10 round capacity. The frames of the LDA and SA's are machined entirely differently. The LDA has no cut for the trigger to slide in as it has a hinged trigger, also the side of the frame is machined away for the DA parts to fit. If you want a DAO pistol in 45 Buy a glock. I like the SA paras, but the LDAs leave something to be desired.

Thanks richbug but I'm trying to avoid Eurotrash plastic. To heck with it, I think I'll just stick with a Colt and keep extra mags handy. 0 -

I wasn't comparing the double stack frames to the single stack frames when I said they were machined identically. I was commenting on the fact that 10 round p14.45 mags and 14 round p14.45 mags will fit in any p14.45 frame reguardless of which magazine it came with from the factory as asked in the origional post.
I have a Para-Ord SA, and an LDA, and I'll counter your argument against the LDA. It's a sweet shooting gun. Long trigger pull yes, but still breaks at less than 6lbs and shoots every bit as accurately (if not more) as any glock or production SA 1911 I've ever seen. You just have to get used to the trigger. If you are ever in Charleston, SC I'll let you shoot both of my para's and see for yourself.

rldowns3: Yeah, I agree you. I went and shot a Para LDA at a range here and thought it was pretty sweet. I liked it a lot better than the Glock, Springfield XD, or the Sig I also tested. I'm just a little bumbed the Covert Black model DC1445E I want isn't on the California DOJ roster of authorized handguns. What's really weird is that there are models on the California authorized roster that don't correspond with any of the models listed on Para's website and there are models listed on Para's website that aren't on the authorized roster. The later is a little more understandable because maybe those models just haven't undergone testing yet and been approved. But, the former is weird that Cal DOJ would list models as authorized that Para doesn't even list as offering, unless they're old models Para quit offering. 0 -

I've noticed that Para-ordnance dosen't list everything they offer in their flyers and online. The LDA that I have isn't even listed anywhere that I can find. But I have it..... best thing to do is to call para-ordnance and inquire as to the specific model you are interested in to see if it's still in production or if they still have any that they would send to your peticular dealer.

In the last year Para has discontinued making a lot of guns tha didn't sell well. I went into the the shop to order a new P-16-40, just to find out they are only currently offered in the LDA.

Discontinued? Bummer dude. I love the LDA. But I appreciate the SA's place in the line-up of pistols. I gotta have my SA too.

Don't get me wrong, the LDA trigger is nice, but I can't rattle of .12 sec splits on it. It is more like a well tuned S&W revolver trigger.
I figure if they don't put them back on the market in the next year or so, I will need some major overhauling, like some accurails.
