OLD OLD PRIMERS who collects them??
Found a super large amount of OLD primers.Some in small metal cans,others in the old wood bottom slide in cases..Who collects them??Is there any demand for such things.If not,,how can you safely dispose of several hundreds of them????Thanks,modoc

To dispose of them, I've been told that You can Kill the Primer with Peroxide....My suggestion is to Pour the Primers into a Container and cover them with Hydogen Peroxide...The peroxide will neutalize the Nitrates in the Primer Mixture...Might take a day or two of soaking...Do this out in the Back Yard and away from Pets and People....Or Contact ICONOCLAST our Resident Ammuntion Expert.....You can find Him on the Wanted Forum.......

If the containers the primers came in, are original? "small metal cans" . Save them, their might be some collector interest. Certain old powder containers, are collectable.
Never heard of, or seen primers packed in metal cans.

Are you sure they are not percussion caps? Percussion caps do not have an anvil in the center. Several percussion cap brands came in little round metal tins. 0 -
I have thousands of very early Remington Kreanbore primers in the sliding wooden trays. I get rid of them by loading and shooting them. I have yet to experience a misfire. 0 -
bpost, back before 1900, and perhaps somewhat later, primers came packaged the same way as the percussion caps - round metal tins. I've even recently seen some Alcan / Fiocchi production, probably circa 1950-65, also packaged in this manner.
modoc, there is some market for these. As with most items involving packaging, the condition of the packaging takes precedence over the contents. Picture containers and other factors will bring premiums. The wood slide boxes date back to the pre-WW2 era . . . again, style & condition govern. These days you run into the HazMat BS on shipping, so you'd most likely need to sell them empty. Let me know if any of the primers have impressed letters . . . these would be roughly 1900 - 1930. I could use some if we can arrange some way to transport them . . . they aren't worth HazMat charges. You may even find some old US Berdan primers from the early CF days. As joel said, you can always try loading some of the primers. If they go boom, you can sell the containers and make a profit on your loading . . . can't hardly go wrong! You can list the empties on this site or others. The tins *will* sell, the boxes *may* sell, but in both cases the prices realized will greatly "depend."
