Powerful Muzzleloader Info

I remember reading in my NRA American Hunter Magazine a few months ago about a new Muzzleloader that would be able to use 300 grains of Pyrodex or 777. I tried looking back through my magazines and cannot find the article again. (It should have been in the last 3 to 4 months, maybe longer but not much) I have tried doing searches on the net and still nothing. I cannot remember the name of the mgf or anything other than it costing $1500 or so. Does anyone have any ideas on what this gun may be? Really, I am not making it up either!

  You're not crazy (at least not on this account). There is a muzzleloader out there designed to take big loads of powder (200 - 300 grains if I remember right). Ultimate muzzleloader might be the name. Don't have time to look it up right now but there is one out there that burns lots of powder & has a muzzle velocity way up there.

  My T/C Omega 50 handles 150 grains of Pyrodex or Triple Seven just fine. I would never go beyond that ... just the recoil would discourage the idea![xx(]

  Unless it has an excessively large bore, "codenamepaul" is right it would take a very long barrel to burn that much powder. To burn 300 grains of powder out of a .50 for instance would probably have to be AT LEAST 54" long to take full effect of the powder. Of course that depends on which powder type as well.

  300 grains....probably a 4 bore double rifle. The only 4 bore I have experience with though fired an 1800gr slug over 380gr of Fg powder. The slug on that thing though was like a .980 inch slug.
