Moderating on "Ask the Experts?"-part 2
I kinda like the shuting down after 10 or so posts. If it ain't been solved in 10, it probably won't be. Good work moderators.
BTW, This preculdes smart and uniformed posts. This has happened to me a few time. Someone makes a funny remark which uses up a post.

The problem is, the useless, irrelevant smartaleck posts are even considered by the moderator. He just shuts down the thread after 10 posts without regard for content. 0 -
Simple answer, it is his job to make the descison, ya dont like his way then go start your own forum and run it as you please. This is a dead issue and will probably be locked real quick. 0 -
I didn't understand it at first, but now that I have been posting here for a long time, I have no problem with the 10 post lockup.
Not every single time, but most of the time by ten answers the question is well-answered and after that the thread either digresses or you have a whole bunch of "me toos" kicking the already dead horse. (And I've been guilty of that myself). The lockup increases the signal-noise ratio.
Occasionally I have felt that I have add something to add after a thread has been locked, but usually its minor and not "the answer" the original poster was looking for! (At that point it probably really is a discussion for the main discussion board).
I've also never felt as someone who has ASKED a question that ending things early has prevented me from getting the info I was after.
If you don't have the answer you want after ten posts you can always repose the question, or take it to the general discussion board.0 -

I have to agree that there is a problem with people putting there unnecessary two cents in causing topics to be shut down prematurely. Some people seem to be more concerned about their total no. of post than being helpful. Somethime being helpful is keeping his mouth shut.0 -
Good point free. Maybe we should ask for the stars and # of posts to be eliminated. That wouldn't bother me although the # of posts does offer some credability to the poster.

You call it "moaning and complaining," I call it "helpful suggestion."
For those that missed the first thread, I suggested a change in moderating style or a different moderator who is willing to actually review the content of posts, rather than just arbitrarily closing them once they hit 10 posts.
Closing threads whenever they hit 10 posts makes as much sense as "zero tolerance" laws.0 -

Dean, your only #9, but I agree completly with you, BTS and a few others. This is one of the better question/answer forums around, and it's due to the way Capt Kerk runs the place. 
Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.0 -

I find it odd how some people think they are entitled to having their little whims taken care of just because they whine about it over and over.
Captain Kirk does this because he wants to....No pay involved....A person has to be pretty self absorbed to think all posts can be read and evaluated for content....I believe even moderators are entitled to a life outside of cyberspace......
Bottom line, yes there are posters who waste a reply or two that add nothing to the thread. But the belief that each and every post will be checked for content is just absurd.

It is a good rule, and Kirk is a fine moderator. William81, you are almost correct, Kirk did get a gunbroker cap for his efforts.0 -
I want to add my agreement to what Willaim81 stated.
The bottom line is that questions suited to this forum can be answered in 10 posts or less and there isn't any reason to go beyond this. The general forum is for the discussions and bantering.
Capt. Kirk does a good job and deserves our respect.
