Took the SKS

out shooting over the weekend. I bought it a couple weeks ago, a Norinco. All numbers match, got a great deal. Tore it down all the way, steam cleaned it and soaked it in mineral spirits (with special attention paid to the firing pin). I was a little apprehensive about how it would work since I tore it down and put it bcak together, didn't need to be. Put a hundred rounds through it, no double fires, no jams, just a good time. Much more accurate than I expected. No complaints whatsoever, well just one. Why did I wait this long to get one?

    I have also purchased a SKS about a month ago. From what I have read and heard, because the SKS is a millarary rifle it will not be as accurate as say a deer rifle. This is not to say that the SKS in inaccurate just don't expect the greatest grouping especialy at a very long range. As for the rifle lasting, I would not worry about it. They are a cheep rifle and can be baught for as cheap as $130 or less if you know where to go. If you play your cards right you can have this cheap plinker for years to come as long has you take care of it, plus if you are using crosive ammo it is nessary to break it down after use and clean everything to prolong the life the rifle. However non crosive ammo can be found for very cheap prices, even cheaper than crosive. Just look online or even gun shows. I bought 1000 rounds of pre-stripercliped n/c for about $100[:0]. So enjoy.

    When I do my job,shooting prone,my Norinco,w/folding stock and el-cheapo bi-pod will shoot a 1" group at 100yds using Wolf ammo and open sights.[^]Biggest problem is that my eyes are getting to where it's really hard sometimes to do my job.[:(]

    If you are tall like me, you may want to putt a rubber butt cuff on it to give it a little extra length of pull. I find mine got a lot more accurate from doing so.

    I'll second drobs on that!!

    I couldn't hit doo doo with the original stock,but w/the longer LOP of the folder,my accuracy improved dramaticaly.[^]

    SKS carbines are great firearms. Inexpensive they are, Cheap they're not. All versions are tough, reliable, and accurate enough and powerful enough to get the job done at reasonable ranges. Plus, they are just plain fun to shoot. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. One warning: You may have one now, but I bet in a few years you'll have three, four, or more. Collecting and shooting them can be addictive.

    Thanks drobs, I believe that would assist me in the accuracy department. I've seen them on different sites for cheap. Couldn't hurt to give it a try.

    I put the fiberglass non folding, looks like a folding stock on to add the length. Fun to shoot

    They sell one just for the SKS, don't buy that one. I blew $5 on one of those at a gun show and it doesn't stay on. Best bet would be to take your gun over to a gun shop and find one of the slip on brown rubber types that go on rifles and shotguns. I forget which size works but it will save you some frustration. One other thing, I find I'm most accurate with mine when I move the rear sight foward one or two clicks from the full back position. Something else to try.
