AR-15 Scope Mount Question

On an A3 style AR-15 do I need to use higher rings to try to look over the front fixed sight? Will the front sight obstruct a low-mounted scope?

Thanks for any input.

    you can either you a high ring or add a riser bar and a medium height ring to it , it all depends on the size of your objective of your scope.

    I used a 3/4" riser,and medium height rings on my A3 pistol.
    Front sight assy, is just bearly shows in the bottom of the 38mm lens scope.

    On my AR, the front sight was not even in focus. Not at 3 power and not at all at 9 power. For most purposes the front sight will not obstruct a low mounted scope, except at 1 or 2 power.

    Having said that, I ended up getting a differant gas block because I liked the scope and I didn't want to use 'iron sights' any more. Besides the scoped rifle looked better without a front sight.

    The front sight will not block your view, but you may have a problem with proper cheek alignment.If not, then the lower mounted the better.

    You need a higher mount for proper eye / scope alignment due to the butt sock having no drop as on typical rifles. What you will find is the scope will end up veing about the same as the original A-2 sights. The old saying the "lower the rings the better" is just not practical on these rifles. Also, I use the ArmaLite Scope Mounts EX0027 or EX0022, depending on tube diameter, because eye relief is usually not adequate using rings alone. Another benefit to this mount is that it can be quickly detached from the rifle and placed then placed back on it with no POI movement.
