Howdy! Lady looking to get "mountain" rifle

Hello, y'all! I did this backwards....started big game hunting with late fathers Browning BAR 300 win mag....weighs 9.5 lbs, scoped. Recoil has not been a bad factor....have killed mulies, elk with it. So long and heavy tho. So I got a used MarkX in a 300 mag , cut down synthetic stock, and I have killed mulies, whitetail, elk with it. Weighs 9 lbs. I wouldn't go so far as to say I am some expert shot, but I am a careful shot. I have never lost anything, and 98% have fallen within 20 yards. Now I have damaged lungs from pnuemonia, and bad knees.... I am looking real hard for the lightest rifle I can get....(cain't afford a custom, now, y'all...calm down..) and with that lightness, I am going to step down a bunch in caliber....I hunt whitetail mostly, and every few years get to go out to mule deer/ antelope/ or elk hunt. AFter much "lurking" I am leaning to the 7mm-08, and can use the Hornady Light magnums perhaps when after elk. I am looking at the rem 7 and 700 youth, the Tikka T3 lite, and the RemTitanium...already got the scope (spent money there first) a Zeiss-C 3x9x36. I am going nutso trying to decide, and money tops out at about a $1000 to make this purchase....I do want a sythetic stock....I hunt a great deal via mule riding, and the lady in me cringes when a piece of pretty wood gets scraped up!! Thanks.....(it is quite enteraining to "watch" y'all "visit" back and forth! Sorry so long, and thanks for your advice....

    Remington has some in titanium that are really light.

    Jim, she ain't Snitch, she spells as well as I do, not the jibberish that Snitch tries to pass off as readable[;)]

    As long as its not too small to fit you comfortably,I'd suggest one of the Rem. youth models. They are pretty light,especially with a synthetic stock. Just make sure the LOP isn't too short for you. A gun that doesn't fit well will hurt your accuracy.

    I bought a Ruger M77 ultra light for my gal in .257 Roberts and it is "ultra light" and really accurate, I can highly recommend this rifle, I'd have to check but I'm sure it's made in 7MM-08 also. And for what you are talking about a 7-08 would probably do the job just fine. Winchester and Weatherby also offer ultra light rifles in addition to the ones you mentioned in your post.     LOP no more than 12"....I have got some short forearms!!! Am considering also, that the scope will add a pound, and so on, so am trying to keep the weight all told under or around 7 lbs....we shall see! You guys are being very helpful (funny, as well!)

    Don't pick on my mule, and we'll get along just fine!

    I like the 700 better than the 7, but by the time I scope out at least a 270 caliber,(The only lighter caliber is a .243) I will be duplicating a 30.06 here that weighs 7 and 1/2 lbs. It is a dilemma.

    My vote is for the T3 Lite. I have one in a 30-06. This is a really great rifle. Nice and light, smooth to operate, and the best is they don't cost a lot. If you can shoot a 300 Win Mag in a BAR you can certainly handle the recoil of this rifle (my preference would be a 308 win).

    What about an NEF(New England Firearms), you can get it in an 243 win, 308 win, and so on. I have an heavy barrel in the 308 that my wife use and loves it. It has an Tasco Whitetail scope and I change the stock to an laminated stock. Look great and shoot great too. Plus you can send in the receiver and stock and get different barrel for it to. I am going to send hers in and get an 20 ga. heavy rifle slug barrel and an 223 Rem barrel put on. Price is not that bad either.

    Just something that not to bad.

    I have a Browning Medallion in 25 WSSM. 6 3/4 lbs, very light recoil - accurate - Plenty for ELK - easy to reload for - and they make one in syn and blue or SS. Wana go cheap? Savage Stevens 25-06 light and cheap, no, not cheap, inexpensive. Rifles can be had for $260.00 or so, piller bedded -- synthetic, very accurate too. I live in Arizona -- biggest Elk to be had anywhere - I know a warden that crops with a .243 - no problem.

    I own the rem model 7 syn stock, SS in .223rem, a very good rifle only thing that could make it better is a drop box mag. However most of the other's mentioned here are good also.If you get the rem make sure it has the R3 recoil pad, lightweight rifle will kick with those light magnums.
