EAA vs. Taurus 66, .357 Revolver
I am thinking of trading in my Llama Mini-Max .45 in for a .357 revolver. A local gun shop has both a Stainless Taurus 66 and a Blued EAA in stock. Both have 6" barrels. Both look to be in good condition but both are obviously used. My Llama has had just under 300 rounds put through it, and after a little bit of warranty gunsmithing (adjusted and polished the feedramp)and breaking in it shoots fine. I am trading it because I don't like how it feels in my hand. They are asking $299.00 on the Taurus and $247.00 on the EAA. I would like to know first of all what you guys think of these guns quality wise, and second, roughly, what I should actually pay after dickering and trade in. Thank you for your help.

BIGGUN, I say go with the Taurus anyday for only $50 more I think you are getting a better gun. I actually had a Taurus 686 clone that would outshoot my Smith 686. Any way, I am not sure who you deal with ,so I don't know what to expect on a trade in. Question though, I looked at the MiniMax at a gunshow and almost bought one. It was $179 NIB. I know you don't like the way it feels, but how did it shoot? I had a Llama 1911 clone that shot great.

I had to send it to the warranty gunsmith immediately after I got because of jamming problems. When it got back I had to put another hundred rounds through it to break it in. It shoots fine now, at least it shoots good enough that I don't feel bad trading it in. It has very little recoil for a such small frame .45 but it likes to shoot brass straight up and sometimes you will catch it in the face. It is accurate as you can expect for a sub-compact. I think it is well designed, but the craftmanship is rough so you will have to plan to work with it when you first get it. For 179.00 NIB I would buy it, if for no other reason than you could probably sell it or trade it in for a decent profit if you don't like it. And of course it has a life time warranty. 0 -
I have a Taurus 669, 4 inch full underlug barrel, got it about 10 years ago. One of the most accurate guns I own. I don't think you'll regret getting the Taurus. 0 -
I too, would recommend you go with the "Taurus" revolver. Over the past decade the weapon's that Taurus has produced have improved over the gun they were copied from (ie PT series verion of the Beretta 92 / Smith revolvers etc.) and they have offered a great value for the money.
EAA imports their revolvers from Germandy, overall the fit, finish and performance of these guns hasn't really stepped-up over the past 10+ years.0 -
Personally, I'd hold out for a used Smith & Wesson or Ruger. Ought to find one some where for $299.

I ended up getting the Taurus. After handling both the EAA the gun I got, you culd really tell the differance in quality. Thanks for the advice. 0
