Enders Double : Info & Parts Needed???

O.K. , a relist on 'ask the experts' section :
We need info on & 'parts' or a 'parts gun' for a Enders Special Service Double Shotgun ...what other parts (guns names)will interchange (if any) did some-one else make this (later?)who,when,ect.???
We have a customer with one & need info & "parts"..........

    I'm sorry to report that you're kicking a dead horse. You have a cheap utility gun that sold new for around $10.00. Now, a century later, you're asking about parts interchange?

    Chances are that it has laminated steel (damascus-type) tubes. They're absolutely unsafe with nitro loads and perhaps unsafe with any load at all.

    Then there's the question of value vs. return on investment. Since this type of gun quite often sells for less than $75.00 and rarely exceeds $200.00, I see no benefit in a repair even if parts were readily available... And they aren't!

    I advise a good coat of oil and an honored spot on the wall for the old gun.

    The ENDERS was made by CRESCENT for SHAPLEIGH Hardware Company. St. Louis, Mo. Some were made in Damascus and other with Steel barrels....Both Hammer Guns and Hammerless were manufactured...In excellent Condition are at the very best only worth $250.00...
    I'd also suggest that You download the Locked Topic on the CRESCENT Firearms Locked Topic {Did You Know} for Your records...Lot of super info for Gunsmiths that did'nt have a list of all the TRADE NAMES used by CRESCENT........Best............

    Yes , I know all about the 'value' and the availibility & prices of parts (been doing this stuff a long time) , but the 'customer' who owns this gun is trying to get it back to a reasonable point ...
    and of course we all are in this business of trying to 'help' the customer !!!! we have explained all this to him , but we are still trying ...and by the way , with-out going into detail (long story) , there is no "oil it down & hang it up" @ this point............

    So what you're saying is that you have a customer with more money than brains? And you're further stating that the customer is fully aware that this is a utility gun at best and probably unsafe to shoot with any load?

    Then you're telling us that you wish to continue the association with this client and "repair" the old gun... Even at legal risk to yourself?

    All I can say is that nothing is impossible. Parts can be located at shows, but you better be patient.

    If it were me, I'd run. I mean flee! Get as far away from this venture as you can. It's got all the looks of a very bad adventure.

    O.K., here we go , as for "nord"??? , yes this customer has been made aware of the value and of the fact that this is not the best choice in an old double...But : it was a 'family' gun , was stolen ,
    stock cut off (@ wrist), recovered , returned to owner ("customer"), and he wishes to get it back to a point so he can put it back in the gun cabnit in respect of the 'family' member it once belonged to .... If the customer wished to shoot this item , it would likely be safe with light loads (and has been instructed NOT TO DO SO), this one is in exc. cond.except 4 the 'stock'...Yes we will continue to try & find him the stock , this has been a long very good customer and we will try and keep him...I have been 'in this business' 4 25 years now , & grew up in this business (grandfather,great-grandfather & father all in this business )..."Customer Service" is something we are proud of ( have U heard of this concept???)???as far as the 'legal' side , I have never been (or heard of) a dealer/gunsmith being sued for trying to find a 'stock' for a customers shotgun!!!!!
    What the HELL????? you give me the impression that if its not something U like or want to deal with (or agree with) then U run off the customer??? This is part of what gives this business a bad name & puts a really bad taste in "customers" mouthes , and then they go to a wally world for 'gun stuff'...Thanks !!!!
    We will cintinue to do business as we are and have for the past 25
    years , offering "customer service"......

    Had you stated what you just did at the beginning, I think I might not have been quite so harsh.

    Please, as a gentleman, re-read your first couple of posts. I think you'll agree that they would seeme to imply that you were going to bring the gun back to shooting status at whatever risk or cost might be. I don't remember any mention of a replacement stock, but I do remember that wallhanger status was out of the question.

    My answer to you carried no hint of condemnation, but it did carry a warning as these were not quality guns even on the day they were made.

    Now then... The customer wants a new stock because the old clunker has sentimental value. The customer is willing to pay far more than the gun could possibly be worth to that end. And... The customer has been advised (in writing I hope) that the gun may well be unsafe to shoot.

    At that point I think you're well within the bounds of customer service. Put the word out and someone will come up with an intact Enders that you can rob for parts. Just don't expect a miracle fit between guns.

    "Gunstocks Inc." <info@gunstocksinc.com> is a place that you might go to find what you need. But be aware that they are backed up to their eyeballs in alligators, so it may take a while to get what you need.

    abcguns2....I can well understand that the owner of a "family heirloom" gun will spend far more than it's "market value" to have it restored.....been there....done that. You can't put a price on memories.

    If you're going to go the "find a parts gun at a gun show" route, you don't necessarily have to look for an "Ender's Special Service"......Crescent often made the exact same shotgun under a wide variety of brand names for various hardware stores, hardware store chains, gun wholesalers, and catalog houses.

    I don't know what models & brand names will interchange with what other models & brand names, but I have a list of 197 brand names under which Crescent made shotguns at one time or another.
