Ithaca M37 Ejection problem
I have an almost new M37 16ga. Deerslayer with 25" FR barrel. I shot my first Lightfield sabot slug thru it & had extreme difficulty extracting the spent hull. I shot a few more with the same problem, (some a little easier extraction than others) I noticed the hulls have 2 distinct imprints of 1 wide & 1 narrow on the brass just below the flange. These are the only slugs I have tried thru this gun. The imprints match the cutouts on the barrel where the extractors fit. Anyone got any answers or ideas????? It's got me perplexed! Thanks, Dave

I wish I could help. My model 37 has no trouble at all, but then again I don't shoot slugs. Silly question but you are using 2 3/4 shells right?

Yes, the gun is chambered 2 3/4" I had a gunsmith tell me that if i leave the barrel a little loose & close the action completely & then tighten the barrel completely, that might help. 0 -
Hello any time you can see an imprint on a empty shell from part of the chamber / extractor THIS IS A WARNING SIGN .IMHO you should try other shells and if the other shell work fine i would get in contact with LIGHTFIELD . I would not fire anymore of their shells. In your shotgun. 0 -

Yes try another brand of slugs , we have seen several times problems with 'slugs' for some reason ...If not , have a 'smith' check out your gun...& I would contact the ammo maker...

I bought a mint '60s Mod 37 a few years ago and found the reason it was still mint was that it regularly locked up solidly after firing, preventing ejection. After a lot of guessing and internal part polishing, a trip to Ithaca fixed the problem. The gunsmith knew what the problem was and fixed it in less than 10 minutes. He wouldn't tell me what it was.
They charged me $50 to remedy a manufacturing defect.0 -
With Ithaca's doors closing you won't have to worry about the junk they have been producing lately, along with their high dollar warrenty pricing, and parts shipping.
It's to late to ask them to wake up.
I'm still having trouble dealing with a $100.00 warrenty charge on a really bad crooked sight problem that should not have left the factory in that shape.

I have an Ithaca 37 in 12 ga. that has served me well for 30 + years. When I started shooting slugs through it 20 + years ago, I had the first and only ejection difficulties it ever experienced.
I had it checked out by a gunsmith and he told me to try some different brands of slugs as he could not find any reason for the ejection problems. I settled on Federal slugs and have not had any problems since.

Give the chamber a good cleaning with solvent and a 10 gauge brush on a slow speed electric drill. It might work. Do try another brand of ammo.

I'm ready to try anything, seems as if the brass on the Lightfield is swelling back toward the flange, (hence the imprints on the brass) 0
