bluged verse bent barrel?
good morning all,
just finished reading the replies about a bluged barrel. personally i would never shoot one either.
last year a friend who i duck/goose hunt with forgot about his benelli pump laying against the truck. as he drove off the barrel got stuck between the cab/bed. the barrel was bent nearly thirty degrees.
a gunsmith straightened it for him, said safe to shoot. i can still see a slight bend, it is more pronounced it you look down the barrel.
i said i would not shoot the gun but as i usually hunt next to him i am starting to wonder how safe is the gun?
anyone have any experiences with a bent barrel shotgun?

shotgun Barrels are a lot more forgiving than rifle barrels (considerably less presure). I've straightened several barrels myself (up to 45 deg. bend) and as long as the barrel wasn't 'kinked' or ovaled out I'd shoot it myself. As far as bulged barrels go, it depends on were the bulge is, the other post refered to a bulge about (+-) 12" from the chamber and how bad the bulge is and what caused it. I've 'ironed' out SLIGHT bulges close to the muzzel with a 3 ball bearing clamp arangement (browning a-5's were noted for bulging the choke area were shot w/steel shot). 0 -
First of all how can you aim a bent barrel? It don't have any adjustable sight.(like my english)I would not shoot it, might be good for ever, might blow up on the next shot.The peace of mind that comes with a new or used barrel is well worth any price! 0 -
I just bought an ar-15 barrel that was bent from the factory. It bent upward about 1/8" in the last 2 inches of the barrel. Shot really high. At 25 yards, it was about 1-2 feet high. Fortunately, the company I got it from stood behind it and replaced it.
It is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.0 -

Think about this. Are you willing to take the opinion on the safety of that gun from a gunsmith that couldn"t straighten the barrel?
If Wal-Mart is lowering prices every day,
