rebluing

I thought I might try to reblue a worn trigger guard and floor plate from a project rifle. No one in this city does this anymore. Any suggestions short of sending them away.[:D] Be Kind!

    I have a marlin model 81 that has some pitting and a little rust whats the best way to get rid of the rust also whats a good bluing to use to reblue it should add that it is a 22lr bolt

    MY 2?. If your talking about the original Model 1881, and it hasn't been screwed with, don't be messing with it. Depending on variation and caliber, it could be worth some money. It MIGHT? be even worthwhile to have a pro restore it.

    ruff the only thing I know about it is it dont have any ser# it has a u stamped in it and its a 22lr

    Not to worry, It's not the rifle I was talking about.

    You could get Birchwood-Caseys gun reblue kit and follow the instructions to a T. Preparation is everything. That is a nice gun to experiment with. You will have fun with your project. If you want to go a little farther Birchwood also has a gun refinishing kit for the wood and metal.
