Wards/Mossberg question
Hello all! I have a question about a Wards Western Field model 46A(AKA Mossberg model 42). There are two slots running vertical on the left side on the rear-most section of the rifle. The closest I have found as far as a picture is the model 142. The 142 has what looks like a peep-sight in that area. Is this a place for a peep-sight or is it part of the safety? The rear portion of the bolt has an 'S' but I can not find how to engage it. Any help appreciated.

I have owned a number of Mossbergs in the past. On mine there were ( 2) tapped holes on the left side of the receiver at the rear for a adjustable rear peep sight. The slots MIGHT? be a means of attaching a sight that were used with the rifles sold by Wards?
The lever safety was under the rear portion of the bolt. There were two colored "Dots" Red & Green. You moved the lever between them.

Rats! Well, Guess that's a part I'll need to order (safety lever). The rifle has its own sights so the peep will not be a problem. The safety on the other hand, oh well. Looks like I'll have to contact that havlin guy I saw in the search program. Thanks. 0 -
OK. I bought this during lunch today and still have it in the truck here at work. The safety is OK but is not a lever. You pull on the bolt and twist until the 'S's line up. So at least I'm not missing any parts like I thought. Thanks 0
