laser grip on CC gun?
I am trying to get peoples opinions on what would be better on a concealed carry gun. Night sights, laser grip or a combination of both.

I really must agree with rldowns, low profile night sights are about the best you can use on a concealed carry gun. The other options add weight, and are a pain in the #%&* because of controllability, weight, and ease of use. The last thing you want to do in a gun fight, is try and figure out how to turn on your lazer!

Haven't got concealed carry yet in KS, but we are getting ready. I got my daughter a Tauras model 85 stainless .38 +p 5 shot revolver with a Crisom Trace laze sight. Once turned on (can leave it on all the time carrying) to activate all you have to do is grip the grip firmly. 0 -
Either dayglow sights like on recent S&Ws, or 3-dot white sights are best for most civilians. Tritium & laser sights are of value only during a very short period of time at sunrise/sunset. Keep things simple.
Unless you have had extensive training, when confronted with a Close Encounter of the Worst Kind, all you will be able to do is put your gun between yourself & the threat, & pull the trigger until it is neutralized. Hopefully your gun will shoot where you point it.

Lazers are something you show your freinds, and say WOW look what I got on my gun. Use the low profile tritium night sights.
It is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.0 -
I have been a firm believer in night sights, I have them on five of my hand guns, lasers are cool looking and do work, but I do not believe it is something that should be relied upon, I do believe they make an excuse for lack of practice with some people, sure going to the range and hitting the ten ring with a laser is fun, but there is no challenge or skill involved ,gets boring real fast

A bad guy breaks into your house, and is armed, you grab you laser and point it, the batteries are dead, you cannot see the iron sights
Or your sights adjustment came out of line, so you can't hit crap{grip screw came loose tec.}
Sure there is a purpose for them but I do believe overall they give a somewhat false sense of security that will replace training, I myself do believe in practicing, just like police officers must qualify every so often to carry a weapon people who carry them should keep up , if I was to put them on a carry weapon I would also put night sights as a back up, and practice with both often

The best of both worlds is to have both night sights and laser if your gun will accept both.
The new Tritium backed, fiberoptics sights sound great.
The undiscussed beauty of laser sights is that you can fire accurately from the hip or any other position without having to get your head in back of the sights.
I can find a very small target, fast from the hip with my Lasergripped

IMO, a few extra boxes of practice ammo through the gun, and/or a good defense training course is going to be worth more than either one of those two.
Most defense situations occur at distances under 7 yds, many at point blank range. Super-precision aiming is not necessary (or even necessarily desireable) at that range, because chances are pretty good you're not even going to use the sights AT ALL.
Laser sights get washed out in bright daylight, and don't hold zero very well. In practice, then, they work best at close range where they aren't really necessary. They might have some deterrent value at distance since nobody likes having a laser pointed at them, but realistically thats probably not much of a defense consideration. And as mentioned above, the batteries can fail.
Again, the main problem with them is that they just aren't 100% reliable. You don't want to train with and learn to rely on a system that might not function when the chips are down.
Tritium sights are expensive, and though they have some use in low-light situations, they are probably only marginally useful for personal defense (as opposed to military or police use).
If its too dark to see your sights (ie you need the tritium), its probably also too dark to see the target (ie you shouldnt be shooting). More to the point, if its so dark that you need the tritium sights, its also probably so dark that the target can't see you either! At that point, "defensive" shooting probably isn't really defensive anymore.0 -
I have tritium sights on some of my guns that I would use for concealed carry. They do help me a lot in marginal light situations. I also got a Taurus Model 85 .38 Spc with Crimson Trace Lasergrips for my wife for concealed carry. I like that arrangement a lot too because you can practice point shooting (unloaded of course) and then flick on the laser to see how well you're lined up on target. It helps to develop your hand/eye coordination. 0 -
I think those Crimson Trace laser grips are a gimic with the on / off switch on the bottom of the grip. What happens when you forget to turn them on? I agree with the above, night sights and a training course would be a better use of your money.
