Dehumidifiers

Suggestions/recommendations regarding brand or type to purchase for general household use.

Our airconditioner/heatpump system is removing about 10 gallons of water daily but we have noticed a couple of desk drawers being affected by the excess moisture.

In passing please be advised that we live on Florida's space coast and have received an extraordinary amout of rain this summer. The ponds are full and the soil is at field capacity and the forecst is for more rain.

Just thought it might help to purchase a dehumidifier and give the ac system some help.

  I have a Sear Kenmore De-humidifier in my basement and it takes out about 40 to 50 pints of water every 24 hours. Works great. If you don't live in the south you don't know what humidity is. The last Kenmore lasted me a little over 12 years--hope this one lasts that long. For under 200.00 its hard to beat.

  Depends on a lot of things...
  
  Dehumidifiers return warm air to the room. In a way that's a good thing as the air is dry and able to absorb a great deal of moisture for its return to the unit to be dried again.
  
  A/C, on the other hand, returns cool dry air to the house and dumps the moisture outside (or into a drain). Too good an A/C will short-cycle and never dry the home properly. Too little A/C may leave the home warmer than you wish. A properly sized unit will run for extended periods and keep you comfortable. It will also offer an optimum level of moisture reduction.
  
  I'd add another A/C unit (or better air flow) if the home is getting too warm. If the home is too cool because you have a larger unit than needed, then I'd go the dehumidifier route. (Somewhat more ineffecient because you get to pay for both warming and cooling at the same time.
  
  Brand??? If you've had good luck with Sears, why not again?

  Thanks for the imput, did not consider the cold air vs.cold air aspect.
  
  Believe for now will go with one of the Sears machines.
