low # 1903 springfields??
not the usual questions. According to the booklet sent with the 1903's from the cmp by 1929 they had a total of 68 burst receivers (out a total production of 1085507, approx.). has anyone out there acctuly seen one burst, or know for a fact that one has?

No, and No. Not to buck conventional wisdom and the good research I'm sure was done, but I have never seen it or been in the vicinity either. Second hand reports are the best I've come by.

Read Hatcher's Notebook by General Julian Hatcher. It's the definitive resource for technical aspects of the '03 and on the whys and wherefors of blowups.
At one time certain early '03s were recommended for destruction but they were instead kept in war reserve and not issued. That did not constitute a blessing that they were safe.
Collecting is one thing but to buy one for shooting is playing Russian roulette only using a larger cylinder.0
