Pin Shooting loads

Does jacketed round nose vs hollow point make much of a difference in pin shooting? Of course with velocity and bullet weight being the same. I am using .45 ACP with 230 gr JHP and they work fine. But, I have a hugh amount of round nose that I would use the same load with. Jim

    I shot pin matches in the mid and late 80's and I used the .45 acp revolver S&W Model 25-2. I used lead bullets so they would flatten out on the pin more, imparting more energy on the pin. I used a 225 grain bullet called a truncated cone bullet. It was similiar to a round nose that had it's nose flattened off to a fairly large flat surface. A good healthy dose of Unique powder pushing the bullet to 850 to 870 fps. really did the trick. You could hear that thing smack a pin off the table.

    I use 185 grain semi wad cutters at 900fps, with iron sights, and still manage to smoke the guy who work up 255grain hot loads and use a laser scope with one foot long magazine

    I find it sometimes is a trade off, heavy bullet=heavy recoil=longer sight picture time, my personal best time is 3.2 seconds clearing five pins

    Thanks for the loads. I really want to know for the exact same load will hollow point work better than hard ball? Jim
