M1903 questions

I have a Springfield M1903 serial # 586XX (1904 prod.)with a 1-19 RIA barrel. I'd say 50% finish left, good bore with little or no pitting - I know this is a low number receiver - not to shoot. Any ideas on value? And is there a safe way to clean / revive the stock? The wood is very dark and grimey (unattractive), but I don't want to lower the value of the firearm by doing something wronge.

  It's probably worth in the $300-400 range. We'd need to see photos or have a detailed description of the parts, type of stock, & stock markings.
  
  If the wood is just dirty, wiping with Simply Green or some other soap will clean it. A coat of tung oil diluted with mineral spirits will preserve it.
  
  If really greasy or shellaced, I'd strip it with paint stripper & apply 3-4 coats of diluted tung oil. Use only 0000 steel wool between coats, never sandpaper.

  Tung oil was not used for US weapons. Stick with boiled linseed oil for the proper finish and the right smell.
  
  Your stock, if period, may be the most valuable piece there. Take good care of it.
