Savage made SMLE?

A friend called me today and asked if I had any info. about a very clean Mark 4 Enfield that he has. It is U.S. marked. What would be the approx. value of this piece? Were there many of these produced?
Any info would be appreciated.

  Savage built quite a few No 4 MK 1 SMLE's for the Tommies during WW2. Figure 40% more than a british made gun. Real nice maybe $250

  Savage made over 1,000,000 Lend Lease #4's during W W II. Bunch of them are being imported and sold now, by Century Arms.
  
  The going price for these current imports is app. $180 +/_, depending on condition.
  
  If your friends rifle isn't marked with a importers name it would be worth substantially more to a military rifle collector.

  Approximately 4 million Number 4 Series Enfields were produced during WWII.
  
  About 2 million of them were made in England.....these are known as Rifle No. 4, Mark 1.
  
  About 2 million were made in North America.....known as Rifle No. 4, Mark 1*. Around a million were made at Longbranch in Canada with "L" serial numbers, and about a million were made in the U.S. by Savage/Stevens and have a "C" (for Chicoppe Falls, MA) serial number. The U.S. made guns are also marked "U.S. PROPERTY".
