Rock River has the current DEA contract. I'm told Bushmaster had it at one time. I've heard good things about Olympic Arms. Armalite makes two price ranges. Colt makes more expensive ones. A Colt HBAR is not an assault weapon by law. AR's are pretty much the PC's of the gun world; almost everybody makes them or parts for them. 0 -
Panther Arms DPMS makes real good AR's at a reasonable price. Olympic arms lowers are excellent to build a custom rifle as well. 0 -
I'm partial to building my own. Once you have a lower receiver the parts kit is relatively inexpensive compared to buying a complete rifle.

I have built rifles using kits from both comanies and am very pleased with the results. The uppers are all fully assembled, head spaced and test fired so you don't have to fuss with it. Total assembly time is about 30 minutes.

wow, i have never heard a kind word about olympic arms ever before from anyone who has any experience with them. The dozen or so that i am responsible for maintaining are junk. We got them because they are cheap and the bean counters wanted to pinch pennies. Well they are paying for it now when i need to order new parts after every range session. Broke a hand guard on one last session. I had to replace many parts in the lowers and some of the machining is "off" so as to wear parts prematurly.
My advice stay away from olympic. Any other brand is a step up.

Personally I wouldn't buy one; but if you were going to buy one, buy a Bushmaster or Armalite. Both of these rifles have chrome lined bores and chambers which is recommended on these types of rifles. They also carry good manufacturer's waranties. 0 -
I have used Olympic receivers in several builds and have never had a problem with them. They are forged, milspec, phosphate coated lowers like RRA or any other brand. Nothing more. I wouldn't buy a factory assembled rifle from them because there are better options for the money, but their receivers are more then adiquate for use in custom rifles. 0 -
As an Olympic arms owner, I just wanted to chime in and say I have not had one single problem with my AR nor has my wife. As for going broke replacing parts on them is a load of $%#@! Why, because they come with a LIFETIME warranty. The only bad word that I have heard about them is that the "Plinker" model is cheap feeling and of lower overall quality - however even it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Olympic receivers ROCK! Never a problem. They are milspec. and work great with DPMS uppers and bushmaster as well. 0 -

Go read olympic's great limited lifetime warranty on there web site! "does not apply to law enforcement" and besides that go ask them to replace a trigger or hammer or semi disconnect that is malfunctioning after a couple thousand rounds. they will tell you "it's normal wear and not a defect" Then appologize to me for your "bull@#$%" comment.

Danski26, I did review their lifetime warranty and you are correct: Law Enforcement and Military sales are not covered to the same level as civilian purchases. Therefore, I will aplogize for my comment. [:)] That is the great thing about forums, we can all learn something new and find out something we thought true was not.
