Ruger Mini 30
Hi to all again. I have been gone for a while, but am back in the game, so here is my question.
I am looking to purchase a Ruger mini 30, SS, with a walnut stock, and am having a hard time finding out the value of such an animal. Looks to be in great shape, shot very little, and the owner is a close family member. I just want to make sure he gets what it is truly worth.
Can any of you experts tell me the current value of such a rifle, other than looking up the info in the blue book?

I have posted a lot on this gun, I have had for about 4 years and I guesimate 2000 rounds through it. It has a beautiful Ruger finish, wood, accessories, and assortment of pistol grip stocks and large cap mags as well as muzzle brakes and scopes. The trigger group is smooth, if stiff, but the firing pin is weak against the commie ammo, and misfires a lot. I figured out that CHEETAH ammo, South Aferican, brass cased and close to the cost of Wolf, is close to price to Wolf, but never misfires like the cheap Russian or Norinco stuff does (about one in 30). Aside from this it compares favorably in accuracy against an SAR-1, AK, but the mags SUCK. I suspect that if the AWB is sunsetted it may increase in value if someone makes some decent 30 round ammo mags that can stand being dropped on the ground, but wonder what it may be worth now used? Should I sell it and get another SAR-1? Those things (SAR-1) are indestructable, and reliable, if less accurate. I want opinions on both please. 0 -

I have the Mini-14 to which I recently added a Butler Creek folding stock. What BC doesn't provide is the "stock reinforcement assembly"...You'll need these for the Mini-30 folder as well, I'm sure.

After getting conflicting advice, I went ahead and purchased/installed the materials--which RUGER said was required. I ordered mine from Brownell's. I'm happy with my Mini-14, especially with the folder, and it has served me well. Best success with your decision. [:)]0 -
I like Ruger's Mini-30 enough that I own three of them!
Good high-cap magazines can be difficult to find; the best are old (pre-1994 -- way pre-) USA brand.
The Butler Creek folding stocks are the best.
If you buy Ruger's Mini-30 with their synthetic stock, you won't get the stock reinforcement pieces that come with the wood stock and can be transferred to the Butler Creek stock. If you want to put a folder on it, buy a Mini-30 with a wood stock.
I don't know how the "new" designed Mini-14s/30s will work with the current aftermarket stocks.

I put a Butler Creek folder on my Mini 14, what pieces do I need? It seems to function fine?

Chris, I think it's just the heat shields that line the stock.
L7, I love my M30; however, plan on getting some trigger work done. I consider it a necessity.

yup... I had some old USA mags with yellow followers that simply worked great... until now I thought I was the only one in the world that had USA hicaps that worked!0 -
I bought an old (but new in wrapper) USA 30 round mag for my Mini-30 that works beautifully. Found it at the bottom of a pile of discounted merchandise. I have a Butler Creek folder on mine, a flash hider and an older 4x Bushnell scope. I couldn't be happier. I also have an Arsonal AK, a SA-93. I like them both. The stock liner on my Mini came with the original wooden stock. With the scope and using the folding stock opened on my Mini-30, I can group my shots inside 4 inches all day. That's as good as I need.

I have a Mini-30 that I purchased in the 80's. I call it my peashooter and I love it. A few things should be done to the Mini's to incease the accuracy. The 3 main things are Bed the stock, have the trigger worked and retorque the gas block scews. Bedding will reduce if not completely eliminate those pesky fliers. Having the trigger done will not help the gun shoot better but it will certainly help you shoot better. I handload for my mini and it will shoot MOA or better. Here is a web site for all of the neat things you can do to a mini to increase the accuracy. Most are free and you can do them yourself. Good Luck
