Yugo ammo powder question for the reloaders.

Can anyone tell me what US powder equivalent would be to the 50's vintage Yugo Milsurp ball ammo that Century Arms is selling (or probably any one else as well). I am curious what 50's era powder they use and how close is it to any common US smokeless powder.

  First off the powder is NOT corrosive, the primer determines if a rd is corrosive or not. The powder used in 8mm is medium burning type, similar to 4895. Pull a bullet and weight the powder charge, then check a reloading book for a similar weight load with a rifle powder, this will give some idea as to what can be subsitued.

  Ammo guy is right, but be sure to work up loads carefully. A buddy of mine pulled a lot of the Yugo 8mm ammo, and is reusing the powder to very good affect in his 30-06. So far as corrosive goes, bingo, it's the primer, not the powder.
