Sweet Sixteen A5

I'm sure this is something that is talked about alot but I need to get an approx value. The A5 I have to my knowledge has never been fired. It is a Belguim. 2 3/4" chamber. It's in near perfect condition. It has a small (1/2-3/4") scratch on the underside of the stock and a couple of smaller scratches on the bottom of the butt. Overall condition is probably 98-99%. Modified choke. Ventilated rib. From what I have found so far one in this condition could bring as much as 1700-1800. Am I close or am I too high?

    If it has "SWEET SIXTEEN" on the left side of the receiver, and it is in the condition you mention, then it will be in the $1500 - $1800 range.

    If it's the number on the bottom of the chamber, it's 0S 58699. Yeah it's a sweet sixteen. Says it on the side opposite the chamber just above Browning.

    OK, that information confirms what it is, and when it was manufactured (1960).

    MD - Welcome to the forum. Yes, a very fine shotgun and you seem to have a nice one. Made in 1960. Odd that it has the light scratches and marks without being carried afield and shot though. You might inspect the bore - look for a mirror-like brilliance. If it has been shot and not cleaned thoroughly there will be some light "streaking" of the bore - it should polish out cleanly though. Also take a look at the outside breech end of the barrel for the Browning "choke code" - probably an asterisk or two (stars) and maybe a dash - generally the more open chokes are more desirable (** = modified choke, for example) That dollar range is about right - the vent rib barrel makes a huge difference in the price.
