Savage Model 1903 Serial Numbers

Does anybody know anything about the serial numbers on a Savage Model 1903? If you do, could you be so kind as to help a fella out? Thanks.

    The B. B. notes that the 1903's were made between 1912 & 1920, with approximately 13,000 manufactured. No specific serial number data is provided.

    The Savage 1903 pump 22 was made between 1903 (hence the model number) and around 1921. Savage did not keep production date records for this model. The highest serial number I have seen is around 144,000. They started low. I do not know if they started at zero. I have one that is 36XX and one that is 141,XXX. Hope this helps.

    The serial number appears as "45.XXX". What does the decimal point mean? Could it mean "#45,XXX"?

    The dot meant nothing, they used it for a while then stopped. It did mean 44,XXX.
