Win.Mod 94 problem

I don't have this gun in my hands,since it belongs to my brother,but I have seen it.

He inherited it a few months back from is wife's Grand Dad.

It's a .30cal,but got a box of 30-30 with it that his Father-in-law had been usin' in it.I guess that'll work,huh?

BUT,the problem is,it functioned fine when he first got it,(he hasn't shot it)but after just cleaning the bore and givin' the action a squirt or two of Rem-oil,now it won't work,like it's jambed up.Can't budge the lever a bit.[:(]

Any ideas[?]

    .30 WCF IS THE SAME AS .30/30, CANN'T HELP WITH THE REST W/O MORE INFO.

    Try squirting some pennetrating oil into the action and let it sit for a minute. That might make it easier to open.

    You need to tell us if there is something in the chamber, like a fired case or a live round. And, is the actual jammed closed, or jammed open, or in between?

    Nothing in the chamber.

    Jambed closed.


    Nothin' was disassembled when cleaning.Just cleaned the bore and oiled the action.When he closed the action,that was it.Locked up.

    I'm supposed to get my hands on it in the next few days.Then I might can tell you more,but until then,that's all I know.

    Try tightening the spring cover (loading gate) screw. It sould be the only screw on the right hand side of the receiver.

    If it is then check to be sure the that all the other screws are in place and tight.

    No other suggestions until these are checked out.

    The action will work with the hammer up or down.

    Hello I am not the sharpest knife in the rack but don't you have to let the hammer down before you can work the action.??

    Didn't older winchester lever guns have a lever lock at the rear of the lever? Could it be locked?

    Nope... the action can be cycled regardless of the hammer position.

    Nope... the Model 1876 was the last lever-action to have a lever lock. None of the John M. Browning designed Winchester lever-actions were manufactured with a lever lock (the Models 1886, 1892, 1894, 1895, and all the subsequent sibling models).

    My guess is that a small piece of a cleaning patch was inadvertently left in the action after cleaning the bore, and when your brother closed the action after cleaning, it jammed up the action. The action on a Model 1894 is fairly robust, and I would recommend firmly/sharply trying to cycle the lever/action (after checking the screws as Ronald suggested).

    My guess is that a bit of material came off the patch and worked it's way between the bolt and sidewall; however before I started forcing things I'd make sure that the pin holding the lever mechanism to the bolt has not worked it's way out to the side, but I'm thinking this is probably not it if the action is completely closed, as the hole the pin slides through is about halfway back along the receiver.
