WWI - WWII arsenal rebuild Colt USGI 1911

I have a Colt M1911 frame sn: 493606 (mfg date late 1918). It was rebuilt for WWI, the top is Remington Rand, Inc.

Stamped on the left side below the barrel is "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", just above the trigger is stamped AA (Augusta Arsenal), and to the back of the trigger is the "Eagles Head" S5 stamp.

The top only has REMINGTON RAND, INC SYRACUSE, NY USA.

Now here's the downer! The previous owner had his Name and Social Security Number STAMED into the frame!!

I've been looking around, and the guy at www.dvcustom.com said he could fill them in, and re-parkerize the gun.

I was wondering what you think the value of the gun is now, and what it could be after the re-parkerizing (considering it goes very well, and you don't see any trace of teh stamps)

    An unmolested mixed parts arsenal rebuild would probably sell in the $500-700 range. Mutilated like yours, it would probably still bring $400-500, since just about any functional USGI .45 is worth that much as a "shooter".

    If you just want a nicer looking shooter, it may be worth the $200 he is going to charge you. But, you won't get that money back when you sell it, as the repair is unlikely to be invisible, & his fresh repark will not look like it was applied at an arsenal 50 years ago.

    If it was me I would probably just let it alone. In 100 years who would care?

    A Colt single action with some real cowboys name etched into it probably is worth a little more anyway.

    Just my thought that it's part of the individuality and history of the weapon.
