Walther PP, when was it manufactured?

I have a Walther PP 9mm kurz with a serial number of just over 66,000. It has the interarms logo on one side, but the other side is stamped as being made in W.Germany.

I'm guessing that this is a post war model because of the WEST Germany, but I am not certain how much past the war that would be (guess I need to brush up on my history.

I would really love to find out how old it is and what it's worth (although I would be hard pressed to ever get rid of it)

    Find the proof mark on it and there may be two numbers underneath. That will be the year of manufacture/proof. While the German made PPK stopped in '68, the PP was never stopped from being imported.

    I have one, just as you described. I purchased it in '80 or '81, brand new in box. It was from the last shipment of W. German made PPs to be imported by Interarms. I have the box, test target, 2 mags, and all original papers. Mine is serial #673XX. So, I would guess yours is from this era as well.

    There are a series of marks just above the trigger guard on the right hand side. I don't have a magnafying glass, so I'm not sure that they are, from L to R there is some logo I cant read, something that looks like a "n" or a "Z", HI, and something that looks like an antler

    I used to work for the Department of Interior and carried a government issue SigSauer P-228 (I'm not a big fan of 9mm but that's what they gave me) and my current duty weapon (I work private security part time) is a personally owned HK USP 40cal, full size (guess I have something for German guns)

    The West Germans went to a "letter code" proof date probably in the 70's. My reference notes that the "letter code" HI corresponds to 1978. The "Antler" proof is the mark of the Proof Facility in Ulm Germany.
