Thinking about buying an AR15 style rifle. Any suggestions? I would like something that will accept standard mags, uppers, and so forth. Something that I can add to later when I have more money. Also, I'm trying to stay under $500.

    I have decided on the .223 cal, for my 200yrd paper target shoots(just for fun.) But I have a couple of make and model to choose from.
    CZ 527 carbine
    Savage 16 FXP3
    " 110 FP
    " 111
    " 200
    Ruger M77
    " Mini 14
    Winchester Mdl 70
    Browning A Bolt Stalker
    Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Remington is a good choice. Browning's are excellent but almost to good looking to use.

    cz 527 hs precision stock full alum. bed single set trigger. also the savage model 12 is an excellent choice

    All I can tell ya is that I absolutely LOVE my A-Bolt Composite Stalker in .270.

    Don't get me wrong.The 700 is a fine rifle,but the A-Bolt's 60 degree bolt throw is NICE!

    What kind of varmints do you intend to shoot? A rifle to work over a dog town (heavy) is very different then what I'd want to take a stroll (med/light) with, and they are still not what I'd want to call pedators/cyotes (med/heavy) with. Both the rifles you are asking about are med weight, built on a .308 length action. The CZ527, the mini mauser and some Sakos are built on true mini length actions. The CZ527 American (under $600) features a 22" barrel and single set trigger, it would probably be a good rig for strolling and popping varmints which cross your path. I don't know enough about the new mini mausers to say what they are this time around, yet. Still you can't go wrong with either the Rem or the Browning.

    I shot a Stevens 200 in .223 at the range today.It has a Simmons AATEC scope.The complete set up cost about $400.00.With 69 grain Match King,5 shot groups were between .665 and .800.

    Most Brownings have bad trigger's that are non adjustable. Ifn you want something pretty go for the Browning, Ifn you want one that shoot's great go fer the Savage or Remington. My 2 cent's worth, Browning owners FLAME AWAY.[:)]
