Real Price of Colt Python .357?

My buddy's grand father died and we are trying to find a value for his Colt Python .357. Gun is in Great condition, no scratches, BLUE 6 inch barrel, Fixed Sights.

I have noticed the auctions guns are listed from $600 - over a grand, but few bids. Can anyone give me a ball park value on this one?

This is an estate matter and my buddy would like buy the gun, but the family is trying to come up with a price to make it fair for everyone. Any help would be appreciated.

    "Fixed Sights" no python was ever made with fixed sights, all were adjustable. Most exc. cond. pythons SELL for $600-$800

    For comparisons sake, I paid just under $600 for a "shooter" grade 1961 Python (6"). It had a cylinder ring and a little blue wear on the front of the muzzle and front of the trigger guard. The dealer paid to have it retimed for me as part of the deal.

    Depending on how old it is, if it is in mint condition, then $800 is fair. I saw a LNIB 1965 (6") Python for $1100 and it sold in several weeks.

    Does it say PYTHON on it? If it is a family matter then a high number is not fair. That is retail. 500-600 is a fair value to place on it for family purposes. BUT......if it has fixed sights it is NOT a python as stated previously.
