trade a smith for a smith

I have a 645 smith a friend of mind has a lady smith 357 with laser grips and a 3inch barrel alloy frame. He wants to trade me. Doe's anyone know if it would be a good trade. I kind of would like a liteweight 38. would then price be about even.

    It's a fair swap.

    However, if I were getting a S&W snubby (which I HAVE done, & more than once), I'd get a .38 special with a 2" barrel; a compact gun that is 1 1/2" too long is, well, too long. And, I wouldn't want to fire a .357 in a J-frame, especially one with an alloy frame.

    Just my opinion.

    I wouldn't carry a lady smith if I were a guy. I have one and like it however. It's a 38 airweight ladysmith. I really don't like the airlites ti's. They feel like a bazooka when you shoot them. I can shoot all day with mine and have. But I shot my dad's airlite 38 and put it back down. I would pitch the laser grips and just focus on the front sight.

    I would pass on the trade and get a K Smith snubby if you want one. I just purchased a model 66 with a 3" barrel. It is still concealable,accurate and won't pound your hand when 357's are shot.

    On a concealed carry .357 revolver a 3in. barrel will actually serve you better than a 2 inch.

    It gives ballistics closer to those from a 4 inch. than a 2 inch, it points/balances much better and you'll have a full length ejector rod for shucking those long and often sticky .357 cases out.

    As for concealability, the grip design of a revolver is actually more of an issue than it's barrel length. You'll find you won't really notice that extra inch of relatively small diamter tubing.

    I've fired the alloy framed S&W .357's and their recoil/controllability isn't as bad as you'd expect. I'll admit they give your hand a decent pop, but with a well designed grip that covers and widens the backstrap a bit they're not uncomfortable.
