How do you all ship pistols and revolvers. I would use UPS, but there's a stipulation that it has to be for repair. I would use FedEX, but I will have to win the lottery first to pay their shipping prices. I would use USPS, but I don't like bars on my windows. I would send through a FFL (even though I don't need to) but they charge heeps of Doe-ray-me too. Plus, it's hard to coordinate schedules. Is there a shipping service that isn't afraid a gun will jump up and shoot on it's own? This is wild.

    Sorry, I can't help with your question, but visiting your profile, I see that you're a "Professional Daughter." Would you consider mentoring my three daughters? They are RANK AMATEURS! You'd think with FORTY-EIGHT years of experience (between them), they'd at least be up to "farm league," but NO--sand lot, all the way! [:D][8D][:0][V]

    First: Do it right or you will have more problems than you need or want. best is to hire a ffl in your area and have them do the work and charge you buyer the fees. Be safe and be not in trouble.

    I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.

    My father has 3 daughters too. I am sure his sentiments were the same when "we" were little. Don't lose hope...there is light at the end. [:D] I have the joy of mentoring one little girl that is surrounded by 6 brothers. I governess for the family and it's been interesting having not had any brothers. Two very different natures, but oh, I would have it no other way.

    I found a farely local ffl and it all worked out just fine. He didn't charge me anything but the shipping. I can't ask him for the favor again though. It was awfully nice.

    Unless you know a FedEx employee and can have them ship it for you, UPS is your best bet. However, me thinks you may need at least a C&R FFL to ship through them. And you can ship non-C&R handguns. $30 for 3 years is cheap enough.....

    what does c & r stand for? I thought all handguns had to go through all the special hoops.

    I thought that a private individual could ship a handgun UPS overnight as long as its going to a FFL dealer??? I ship handguns UPS AIR and I am not a FFL dealer, but I ship them to a FFL dealer.

    This is cut and paste from the unlicensed person section on Shipping

    "UPS: UPS will accept handgun shipments by Next Day Air only. Rifles and shotguns can be shipped by UPS ground service. UPS will accept shipments of ammunition. UPS does not allow shipment of firearms FROM an unlicensed person (even to an FFL), unless the stated reason for the firearm shipment is for repair or modifications."

    I'll check out dhl, right now their site is down.

    This subject comes up once a month.

    UPS & Fedex have the same rules. Handguns may be shipped by a nonlicensee to an FFL or manufacturer, for whatever reason, as long as such tranfer is legal. As rules have changed once or twice a year, not all clerks are clear on them; it's usually best to declare a gun as "firearm for repair". Both carriers require that firearms be shipped ONLY from a company customer counter, not a packaging store, company store, or any other outlet. Handguns must be shipped Next Day Air services, with "Adult signature required" sticker.

    A C&R is of no value when it comes to SENDING firearms, only when RECEIVING firearms. A C&R cannot send or receive a handgun by USPS. And, if a state/locality has laws more restrictive than federal law, the S/L laws take precedence.

    DHL does not accept firearms, period.

    The USPS will provide priority mail boxes free of charge. They have boxes marked "flat rate" which is about $8 / box, regardless of weight or destination (to the lower 48). If you go get a box and other packaging materials and take that and the handgun to an FFL (don't seal the box before hand) then many FFL's will be more then happy to ship the box for you through the USPS. I provide this service to my customers for $25 for handguns.

    Look in the phonebook and call all the gun dealers. I would be shocked if you didn't find at least one that would ship it for you. Also, check out the transfer dealers listed on the gunbroker auction site here http://www.gunbroker.com/User/DealerNetwork.asp . Chances are these people know the process and would be happy to assist you for a reasonable fee.
