Hi Point for CCW and bear protection?
Just kidding, a friend of mine is in need of cash and offered me his Hi Point C9 for 50$... I said OK as I'd give him the money anyway but now the question is: can I fire it safely with regular 9mm ammo for plinking or is there a risk? I know it won't last long and I won't trust my life on it but if I could have some fun and kill a couple soda cans with it that would be great...

According to the Hi Point website all of their firearms are +p rated. Now wether or not you would actually want to try that is up to you, I wouldn't. Winchester white box should be more then safe to use in it I would think.

Actually the carbine (as opposed to the pistol) is supposed to be pretty good, being fairly lightweight, reasonably accurate and (believe it or not) reliable.
I don't see why it wouldn't be. Its probably a basic blow-back design; those sorts of carbines are relatively simple and have been around for literally decades. The company does, also, apparently stand behind its stuff, so if you have a problem of any kind, they will take care of it.
The manufacturer explicitly says it can take +P, or even +P+ carbine ammo, and I'm sure it can. . .it is after all a carbine! On the other hand, it isn't clear why you would actually want to try that, unless you really were trying to use it for defense or hunting!
I think its fine for plinking with basically zero risk that its going to blow up from normal use. Just don't forget your eyes and ears.0 -
Pack it up and send it to me, I will test fire a few thousand rounds over the next twenty or so years and let you know how well it does.[:D]

They do break down but they go back directly to the factory for free repair or replacement. The customer isn't going to pay you for something they can get done for free from the maker. HiPoint has the best warrenty free repair and no guestions asked as to fault. O.K. , They are a P.O.S. , but the factory will 'fix-replace' these ,

I bought one at a gun show,shot a few hundred rounds through it with no problems,took it apart to see how it was made and was amazed how it worked so well made of cheap plastic and pot metal,put it back together,shot a few more hundred rounds again with no problems.I sold it about a year ago and made money on it.So I would pay 50 bucks for another one. 0 -
Cool, thank you guys for the replies. Like I said, I'll give him the money regardless, I was more concerned about it being safe. I don't care if it breaks as long as it doesn't blow up.

no, most of our customers are repeat buyers, not one timers... if there was a problem we would know about it. The hi-points simply do not seem to break. Do some research. You'll probably be surprised to hear that their carbine was the only one that passed the test for Tampa PD... and yes, the PD bought about 200 of them.0
