shotgun magazine tube spring

I just bought a Wolff magazine tube spring for my Benelli 121 M1. It was misfeeding the last round. The tube is 19 inches long and the old spring was 23". I knew the new spring would be longer but, the replacement is 44" long. Is this to be cut to lenght or used full size? It seems too long. I got it in there and it has a LOT MORE pressure than the old one. But now I was thinking it my be too much. Anyone know for sure? Jim

    Do you have any dummy rounds to try it before you cut it? Might not need to do anything to it.

    The wolff 12 ga tube springs I have used were just bulk spring stock that needs to be cut to length. If you manage to stuff that spring into the gun, it won't hold more than a couple shells.

    First I would contact Wolff, and see what they say.

    If you decide to just try cutting it, I would start long and work my way down. You said the original was 23", so if it was me, I would start probably at 30, then slowly work my way down toward 23. Each time checking functionality and round capacity. Just remember once you cut it you can't go back and add length.

    Count the number of coils and see how much longer the free length of the new spring will be. It should hopefully be about a foot longer.
    Another method would be to have enough spring that when the mag is loaded, you have a half a shell length extra before the spring goes solid. You don't want the spring to go solid when fully loaded.
