what is the difference in the model 48, model 48 mohawk,and model 48 sportsman.are they all the same gun?

  The difference is the following:
  There is no Model 48,
  
  There is a Mohawk 48 which was made in the late 60s and early 70s, it is a 5 shot magazine. (4/1)
  There is the older 11-48, it is also a 5 shot,
  
  The Sportsman 48 was a 3 shot (2/1) to comply with laws not allowing more than 3 shot capacity.
