What in the heck is this?
no markings what ever, except for the 4 digit serial number. It appears to be 32 caliber.

Perhaps a Beholla? 0 -
I believe it's a Steyr or Bayard from about 1907 or copy thereof. Odd there is no proofmark. Research those two names and I'm sure you'll find it. All my books are at the shop and I don't have one of those.

The grip design is identical to that of a Menta made by August Menz of Suhl. This pistol is practically identical to the Beholla and Leonhardt. These pistols were made during the First World War as substitute standard pistols for the German military.
The krauts were real particular about proof marks. Being it doesn't have any, means to me that it was either a lunch-box special, or made during the turmoil that ravaged Germany after the armistice of November 11 1918.0 -

The Smith & Wesson Model 1913, .35 Caliber semi-auto, was manufactured using the patents of Charles Clement a Belgian firearms designer. The profile of the Menta and the S& W is similar with the "Hump" at the rear of the slide, but the internal mechanism is completely different. The S & W is much more complicated, i.e. difficult and expensive to manufacturer.0 -

in keeping with the 20% pat rule, the s&w 35 has some minor differences:
1. it has a grip safety on the front strap.
2. the bbl is fluted.
3. the cocking grooves are longer and run horizontal.
4. and countless other little changes inside as rufe mentioned, making it a more complicated gun.0 -

Because it doesn't have the W W I German Military Markings, my 2? is that it would bring between $100 & $200. Most folks would just pass on it, as being another varation of the Spanish "RUBY TYPE" pistol.0 -
