Spanish Pistol

I have a pistol which I would like to know more about. Apparantly it belonged to Franco, the dictator of Spain and was given to my grandfather by Winston Churchill. The barrel is just under 5/16" diameter, measured by impercise means. The markings say: ROYALE DARMES or D'ARMES, PRECISION, PREMIERE QUALITE. This is on the side of the barrel. on the other side of the barell it says Made in Spain. The body has PV on one side and No 393 on the other side. It has mother of pearl grips, and a clip slides in the bottom of the grip. It looks like it is brass with silver plating. The plating is about 70% intact and the brass shows through where the plating is worn. There is no corrosion, or dents. The action is stiff and tight. I have photos if I can post those here.
Any information would be appreciated. I searched the internet for something similar, but couldn't find anything.

    Franco would never have given Winston Churchill anything but a hard time. Remember Churchill went around giving speeches that the UK should support the Commies in Spain.

    Royal is a name found on different handguns associated with the Beistegui Brothers of Eibar Spain. Fabrica de Armas de Grand Precision was a distributer of Royal Handguns.

    Since their various models it would be best if you could post the pictures, perhaps we could identify the model.

    Its a RUBY Type...a name applied to about all Pistols of the period ...made in Spain...as for the history...No way to prove if its true or not...but highly unlikly to have been passed on by Churchill to anyone.....Like Cascio said.... The British were backing the Commies at that time in History...feeling that Communist were an enemy that could be dealt with after whiping Hitlers Butt.....

    This is an interesting forum. Not only is it fascinating to learn the details of firearms from the knowledgeable members, but it is politically enlightening. I read the FAQ about how to link a pic. It implies that they need to be on a server somewhere. I'll work on it and see if I can find one.

    My father was given what was suppose to be an original Hara Kiri knife that have been pulled from the body of a Japanese offices, was given to him by my uncle. It was held in very high regard by the family for several years, ultimately to be passed down to me. I recently found out that is is not of Japanese origin, but Philippine, and my guess was probably won by my uncle in a poker game while in the Philippine Islands in WWII. While it is possible it was used as a Hara Kiri item by a Japanese soldier, without any supporting documentation, it's just a nice example of a WWII era Philippine fighting knife (which, at least, does have some historic significance).

    Without supporting documentation of past ownership, any desire that such an article can be attributed to such pedigree (and related increase in monetary valuation) is futile. Best keep those sorts of items in the family and not worry about it.
