why shooting horizontal groups

hello;

shot some test reloads today with very good results. the problem was my groups were not tight cluster but horizontal strings. best groups were 1" or less. believe the groups would better with better trigger control.?.?

rifle is a sar 4800 with penguin replacement stock/grip. scope is a bushnell elite 3200 at 9X. scope mount tapco 4th gen., leupold rings. butt stock on sand bags, forearm on a cushoned outers rest. rifle weight is 12#

    Hello what was the wind conditions?

    Trigger control is probably a good place to start. The wind will effect placement but not group,(meaning your group will be in one place but not spread otu) unless its really windy and changing direction.

    Barrel touching the stock?
    Have you tried loads that are 1/2gr higher or lower?
    All the same brass make?
    Tried adjusting the seating depth in or out by .010?

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    Wind will most definately effect group size and shape. The wind almost never blows with a constant intensity or direction. It can even be blowing with one speed at your firing point and another downrange. If you shoot much, you know this.
