scope for Savage 22-250

I am in the process of buying a Savage FV 22-250. I need a scope. I have looked at a Leupold FX3 12 power but do not like the $500.00 plus cost. Is there a comparable fixed scope for less money that anyone might recommend. Weaver K scopes makes a 15 power scope, how does it compare to the Leupold?

    I've killed thousands of prairie dogs with a Savage 22-250 topped by a Bushnell 6X18X50. Shot 'em out past 400 yards. Cost for the scope was under $150.00 at Walmart

    The thing to remember is, the dogs won't have any idea of the type or quality of the scope you decide to use! As far as comparison, the Leupold is by far the better scope, but that being said, the Weaver is also a quality scope. I always look at what I am going to be using the scope for, if you are hunting trophy Mule Deer, or Elk, you absolutely need a high quality (i.e. expensive) scope that will perform under extreme conditions, but if your are shooting "dogs", you can get away with a much less expensive scope for that type of hunting.

    thinking about the same gun but topped with a burris fulfield II 4-16x44 with mildot reticle......$300

    I've got a Burris 3x9x40 fullfield II balistic plex on my 25-06. It is a great scope for the money, I have no problems hitting anyting I want at 300yds, say 4 out of 5 times from a soild rest. The suggestion that you step up to the mag range you want in this scope is a good one to my way of thinking. The fullfield II may or may not in the end give the type of performance needed for an expensive trophy hunt, only time will tell that. Still for varmints you really don't need that tough a scope just a very clear and reliable one. The Burris is all that at 1/2 the price.

    My opinion is spend the money right the first time. Leupold or Zeiss. But if you dont care about warranty 5 yrs. down the road the Bushnell 3200's aren't a bad scope. My 2 pennies
