red dot sights

There is a huge difference in the prices of red dot sights. $40 for the inexpensive ones. $300 for the holographics and upwards. What are the differences? Someone explained the concept of parallax to me today. How much does parallax really affect point of aim. It still has to be better than iron sights, right?

    I'm getting a little older (who isn't) and my eyes just don't work like they used to. I'm considering getting a Millet red dot sight for one of my .22 target pistols. Any one have any experience with this or other red dots I would like to hear about them. Thanks.

    Hello I use red dot sights in a different application but I think some things I have found will hold true for you. The brand ULTRADOT is one of the best for recoil and battery life . I have been shooting BULLS-EYE for 40 years and red dots since aimpoint first came out with them . The ultra dot and Gilmore will last for more years then they have been made mounted on the slide of a 1911 type pistol. On this type of mount they get recoil both when the gun goes off and when the slide stops and then again when the slide goes forward and stops.....I have a Gilmore with 50,000 rounds behind it. As far as dot size you are correct in that every brand has a different size dot even if they all claim 4 min or other size .My suggestion is to get an ultradot with a 4 size dot option 2/4/6/8 this way you can have your pick I like the 8 and 10 min dots for targets and hunting I use the large size dot as sort of a range finder If the top and bottom of dot is not well within the body of a deer then I know it is too far of a shot."PRAISE THE HARD-BALL GUN"

    I currently have three old Tasco ProPoint II red dot sights in service. I whitetail hunt with a 6" Colt Anaconda in .44 Mag.
    The PPII has been mounted for almost 10 years and has stood up to several thousand rounds. A second one is mounted on a Remington 870
    Slug gun and the final one is currently mounted on a Marlin Camp 9.

    I have been really happy with all three....

    Guns only have two enemies: Rust and Liberals....
