trap and sporting clays shotgun

I'd like to get into trap and sporting clays, and have narrowed my gun selection down to two; Ruger Red Label or a Browning Gold Sporting Clays. A couple questions...

Will I need three rounds in either trap or s/c? Will the o/u be a disadvantage at all only having two rounds available?

Also, 28" or 30" barrel?

    You NEVER need 3 shells in any clay game, and unless your shooting doubles you only need 1 for trap.

    The term "full use of the gun" in trap (doubles), sporting clays, and skeet means two rounds.

    IMHO the third shot is usually desperation anyway....

    There is plenty of discussion about barrell length and it has a tremendous amount to do with "swing" and weight. In games like Sporting Clays, five stand, and skeet...you shoot more shots that you swing onto the target, meaning traversing the gun to find/shoot the target. In trap...you are mostly shooting targets that are going away from the shooter.

    It sounds like you want a good all purpose gun. Trap and Sporting Clays are at opposite ends of the spectrum when you talk about various shooting sports. Remember Clay targets are like playing cards. There are lots of games that can be played with them, but all the games are different. Poker and Bridge are WAY different as are Trap and Skeet!

    If you can, go to the range, ask those at the range that shoot sporting clays, trap, and/or skeet, which one they recommend. Most folks will let you shoot theirs.... if that's not possible, go to your ffl and then try mounting each one multiple times.... if possible, go pattern it. Then select the one that is best for you...
    How many rounds are you going to shoot a month?
    Have you looked at Beretta trap or sporting clay models?


    O/U is fine, two rounds are all that count....
